Terms of service

Clear terms for learning, teaching and subscriptions.

These terms govern use of Silicon Academy, Silicon Studio and related subscription services. They are written to sit alongside your statutory consumer rights, not replace them.

Effective 13 August 2026Self-serve and organisation accounts

1. Agreement and service operator

These terms form an agreement between you and David Oshikowa Akowe, a sole trader trading as Silicon Academy ("Silicon", "we", "us"), when you create an account, buy a subscription or use Academy or Studio.

Our business and service address is 1 Cotton Close, Dagenham, Essex RM9 4HN, United Kingdom. Our customer support email is contact@siliconacademy.co.uk. If an organisation has a separate written agreement with Silicon, that agreement takes priority where it expressly differs from these terms.

2. Accounts, age and authority

You must provide accurate account information and keep sign-in credentials secure. Accounts are personal unless Silicon or an organisation administrator has expressly created a managed account for another user.

New independent learner purchasing is paused while Silicon Academy remains in beta. Learner access to Studio is provided through an authorised tutor or organisation relationship rather than a learner buying Studio directly. If Academy later opens paid learner subscriptions, the purchase flow will state the applicable adult-approval requirements before checkout. Organisation administrators confirm that they have authority to create or manage accounts and share the information they submit to Silicon.

3. What Silicon provides

Silicon Academy · beta

Academy provides adaptive learning, practice, feedback, assignments, mock assessments, progress information and related learning tools. Academy is currently a beta product and is not open to new public self-serve subscriptions. Existing test, invited or legacy accounts may continue to have access while the product is refined.

Silicon Studio

Studio provides private live teaching workspaces with real-time audio/video, screen sharing, whiteboards, notes, resources and lesson memory. Studio is a teaching tool; Silicon does not supply the tutor merely because Studio software is used.

Learning Evidence Loop

Where Academy and Studio are connected for the same learner, evidence may move between them so independent practice can inform tutoring and tutoring can inform later practice.

No grade guarantee. Silicon supports learning but cannot promise a particular exam result, grade, school outcome or tutoring result.

4. Studio safety, safeguarding and recordings

Users must behave appropriately in live lessons and follow our Safeguarding and online safety policy plus any stricter safeguarding rules that apply to the tutor, school or organisation running the lesson. Studio must not be used to harass, groom, exploit, threaten or expose another person to unlawful or inappropriate content.

Professional boundaries apply to one-to-one teaching. Tutors must not pressure a learner to move lesson contact to private social media or personal messaging, pursue a romantic or sexual relationship with a learner, or request unnecessary sensitive or financial information.

Silicon does not enable lesson recording by default. Users must not record a Studio session unless they have a lawful basis, any required consent, and permission under the applicable school, organisation or safeguarding policy.

Silicon is not an emergency service. Immediate safety concerns should be handled through the responsible adult, organisation and appropriate emergency or safeguarding channels. Safeguarding concerns connected to Silicon can be reported to contact@siliconacademy.co.uk.

5. Plans, prices and automatic renewal

Silicon Studio is the current public self-serve subscription. Academy remains in beta and Complete is paused for new customers until Academy is ready for public release.

PlanMonthlyAnnualPublic status
Studio£29£290Live · one 14-day self-serve trial
Academy——Beta · no new public checkout
Complete——Paused for new customers

Studio prices are in GBP. Any tax that legally applies will be handled as required. A paid Studio subscription renews automatically for the same billing period until cancelled. The amount and billing cadence are shown before Stripe Checkout.

If you already hold an Academy or Complete subscription from an earlier release or controlled test, your existing billing and cancellation rights continue to be governed by these terms and the Refund and cancellation policy. We may change prices for future billing periods with notice where required and will not retroactively change a charge already paid.

6. Studio's 14-day trial

Eligible self-serve Studio educators can use one 14-day trial. No card is required to start. To continue Studio after the trial, billing details must be added before the trial ends. If no required payment method is present at trial end, the trial ends and Studio access is locked rather than charged.

Trial eligibility may be limited where an account, person or organisation has already used the trial. Creating additional accounts to obtain repeated trials is not permitted.

7. Cancelling a subscription

You can cancel a paid subscription through the Stripe Customer Portal made available from Silicon. Unless a different legal right requires otherwise, cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period and you keep paid access until that date.

There is no cancellation fee. Cancelling stops future renewals but does not automatically refund a period that has already been paid. Refund and cooling-off rights are explained in our Refund and cancellation policy.

Account deletion: Permanently deleting an account is different from ordinary subscription cancellation. The deletion workflow ends Silicon access immediately and cancels any self-serve subscription owned by that account so it cannot renew. Deletion does not itself create an automatic refund; the Refund policy and any mandatory consumer rights still apply.

8. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • share credentials or bypass role, subscription or safeguarding controls;
  • attempt to access another user's account, private room or data without permission;
  • interfere with Silicon's security, availability or infrastructure;
  • upload malware, unlawful material or content you do not have the right to use;
  • scrape, bulk-extract, resell or republish Silicon's question bank, explanations or proprietary learning content except where a written agreement allows it;
  • use Studio to harass, intimidate, groom, exploit or endanger another person; or
  • use automated means to create abusive traffic, fraudulent trials or payment activity.

9. Your content and teaching materials

You keep ownership of materials you upload or create, subject to any rights belonging to your school, employer or other rights holder. You give Silicon a limited permission to host, process, display and transmit that content only as needed to operate the features you request.

You are responsible for ensuring you have permission to upload copyrighted, confidential or personal information. Do not upload material that is unnecessary for the lesson or that you are not authorised to share.

10. Silicon content and intellectual property

Silicon's software, branding, question bank, explanations, interface, generated learning materials and other proprietary content are protected by intellectual-property rights. A valid account gives you a limited, personal or organisational right to use the service for its intended educational purpose during the applicable access period.

11. Third-party services

Silicon uses third-party services including Stripe, Supabase, LiveKit, Resend and hosting providers. Their systems may be involved when you pay, authenticate, join a live lesson or receive email. We choose and configure providers to support the service, but third-party availability may occasionally affect Silicon.

12. Suspension and termination

We may restrict or suspend an account where reasonably necessary to address security, non-payment, misuse, safeguarding concerns, unlawful activity or a material breach of these terms. Where appropriate, we will try to explain the issue and allow it to be resolved.

Serious abuse, fraud, security attacks or safety risks may require immediate action. Statutory rights and any refund owed by law are not removed by this clause.

13. Availability and changes

We aim to keep Silicon reliable, but we cannot promise uninterrupted availability. We may maintain, repair or update the service and may change features where reasonably necessary for security, performance, curriculum quality or product development.

If a change materially reduces a paid service during an active billing period, we will provide an appropriate remedy where required by law.

14. Responsibility and liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or rights that cannot legally be excluded.

For consumers, Silicon is provided with the rights and protections required by UK consumer law. For business or organisation customers acting mainly for commercial purposes, any additional liability limits should be set out in the applicable written organisation agreement.

15. Consumer rights

If you are a consumer, these terms do not take away rights you have under consumer law in relation to services or digital content that are faulty, not as described or not provided with reasonable care and skill. See our Refund and cancellation policy for our practical process.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Silicon or the law changes. Material changes affecting an active paid subscription will be communicated where required. The effective date at the top identifies the current version.

17. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the UK, mandatory consumer protections and rights to use your local courts are unaffected.
