Cookie notice
Only the storage Silicon needs to work.
Silicon currently uses a secure sign-in cookie and limited browser storage for the checkout journey. We do not currently use advertising or behavioural-analytics cookies on Silicon pages.
1. What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small pieces of data stored by a browser. Similar technologies such as local storage can also save information on a device. Some are necessary for a service to work; others, such as advertising or analytics technologies, may require a user's consent before they are used.
2. What Silicon currently uses
| Name | Technology | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| silicon_session | First-party secure HTTP-only cookie | Keeps a signed-in user authenticated and allows Silicon to apply the correct account permissions. | Up to 7 days, or until it is cleared on sign-out. |
| silicon_pending_checkout | Local browser storage | Temporarily carries the selected Academy, Studio or Complete plan through sign-up/sign-in into the requested checkout flow. | Cleared after the checkout hand-off is processed; it can also be removed through browser storage controls. |
| silicon_pending_checkout_cadence | Local browser storage | Remembers whether the user selected monthly or annual billing while the requested checkout flow is completed. | Cleared after the checkout hand-off is processed; it can also be removed through browser storage controls. |
These technologies are not used to build advertising profiles or track users across unrelated websites.
3. Third-party services
When you leave Silicon for a hosted service, such as Stripe Checkout or the Stripe Customer Portal, that provider may use its own cookies or device storage under its own policies. Studio's real-time media uses LiveKit connections, and public Silicon pages load font assets from Google Fonts.
Silicon's own pages do not currently embed third-party advertising pixels or behavioural analytics.
4. Consent and future changes
Because Silicon currently uses only storage needed for sign-in, security and a user-requested checkout flow, we do not show a marketing-cookie consent banner. If we add non-essential analytics, advertising or other optional device storage, we will update this notice and introduce an appropriate consent choice before those technologies are used where required.
5. Your browser controls
You can delete or block cookies and local storage using browser settings. Blocking the Silicon session cookie will prevent sign-in from working, and clearing checkout storage may mean you need to choose your plan again.
6. Questions
Questions about cookies or device storage can be sent to contact@siliconacademy.co.uk. For wider information about personal data, see the Privacy notice.
